From What I have been told all Consultants are meant to have ABN's apparently the ATO will be cracking down on Party Plan and the like as this has been a very grey area for some time. I was also told that people think they are ok as they are a hobby but someone told me if you earn more than once its more than a hobby. So Goodluck with finding one that you wont need an ABN for.

HI There

I didnt think that an ABN was required until you were earning a certain amount- to my recollection it was about $16000. There is no way at this stage I would be earning that. I would love to think in a year or 2 I would, but not at the moment.

If you want more info on Nutri Id be happy to help you out.
Also being in WA I can organise training for you if thats what interests you. And the start up cost can even be earned back by you depending on sales. Nothing to loose really :)

This is a really grey area this topic. According To Marty's accountant if you earn more than once its not a hobby. This would put alot of people in a position that they didnt realise they needed one. I for one actually hope the ATO do get onto it and set the record straight about what we all should be doing so its set straight across the board.
Registering for GST is a different issue. I think thats over $75k. With ATI Marty Advises that he wouldnt be able to pay the correct commission if the consultat didnt have an ABN as he would need to pay at a different rate.

I don't know what the Question was but I thought I would post the question (in direct relation to PP) I asked my accountant and he brief answer. I am having a follow up appoint with him to go into more detail

Question.....
I have read that I can earn up to $75000 a year on it if it is classified as a hobby and not an income etc? I don’t think that I will be selling anywhere near that amount of $ but you never know I guess.

Answer......
no this limit is for gst only, if you earn more than $20k in turnover per year under this business or make a profit then its classified as a business
